An Exit Survey of Research staff has been created using the BOS software and made available to all research staff leaving employment at Edinburgh.

The Researcher Development Programme carries out an annual end of year evaluation of its programmes using the BOS software. At the end of each academic year, all research staff who had taken part in workshops and courses, the mentoring programme and/or who had used resources are asked to take part in the online survey.

The University has set up a fund to support local training initiatives led by researchers (PhD students and research staff) themselves. This Researcher-Led Fund is available for specific projects/activities/events initiated by research students or research staff for the benefit of groups of researchers at a School, research unit or research group level.

A number of Research Staff Societies have been set up by research staff at the University of Edinburgh. These have been started by motivated research staff in several Schools and Research Institutes. The Researcher Development Programme has worked closely with the societies providing help and support. This society development was recognised by being shortlisted for the Times Higher Awards 2008.

A Researcher Development Framework has been produced by the Researcher Task Group at the University of Stirling to assist researchers to make decisions regarding their personal, professional and career development opportunities.

This course supports researchers whilst they write publications. Giving them practical help with structuring and writing papers and also support to find the time and motivation produce a complete first draft.

This is a 2 day course for research staff focusing first on project management and then, on day two , managing people with a particular emphasising managing relationships within a research team in order to get the best out of people and your project.

Initial findings from attitudes towards entrepreneurship survey suggested that many researchers were more interested in the concept of social enterprise than "traditional" enterprise.
