The Enterprise School aims to increase the employability of Ph.D. students and research staff by improving their enterprise skills in a highly interactive, group working environment. The school is based around the creation of a business presentation using real cases and the skills they develop during their time at the school including opportunity recognition, finding a market, intellectual property, basic finance and building the key team. The first Enterprise School was attended by 34 students from the Universities of Manchester, Liverpool, Durham and Lancaster

This is a series of meetings where attendees create their own agenda. Attendees leave and join at their leisure.

This is a training workshop which developes skills for assessing and solving complex problems. A problem solving matrix is used to highlight possible solutions and then narrow down the number of choices to obtain the optimum solution to the problem.

This is a student led project which aims to bring together researchers from different disciplines to discuss the use of new media technologies.

"Starting Your PhD" is a two-hour workshop offered by the Graduate Training Unit to new researchers in each department as a part of thier departmental induction programme. In addition to giving students an opportunity to consider the nature of the PhD, and the issues that they are likely to face over the course of their project, it gives them a first-hand experience of the kinds of training that the GTU offer. This makes it clear to students that skills training is a central part of the research experience, and they are able to experience for themselves the painlessness and usefulness of the kinds of training we do.

A half day workshop intended as a starting point for any researcher interested in applying for independent research funding.

Having the right IT skills is crucial if postgraduate researchers are to successfully complete their research degree. Even if their general IT skills are good, their research may well involve specialist software that they are less familiar with. The University's IT Services division offer a range of IT skills workshops and resources available to postgraduate researchers.

The University Library is a major research library, providing access to over a million printed volumes and a wide range of electronic journals and information resources via the web. It comprises the David Wilson Library, a five-storey building on the main campus, and the specialist Clinical Sciences Library at the University Hospital. The Library also offers training/resources/facilities to help you doctoral and postdoctoral researchers to develop their information literacy and bibliographic skills.

Statistics Drop-In sessions have been designed to allow one-to-one tutorials for statistics and SPSS for research students.
