Welcome to the conference blog for this year's Vitae researcher development conference 2009.

With four plenary sessions, more than 50 workshops, plus the exhibition stands, fringe sessions and practice sharing activities, there is a huge amount to digest and discuss in our two days in Warwick.  This blog is your opportunity to start the discussions early, and keep them going right through the conference and beyond.  To post your own entry or make comments, you just need to be logged in to the site.  Whether you are speaking or exhibiting at the conference, coming as a participant or even if you can't make it this year please add your views to the blog!

So, I've been asked to kick things off by picking out my personal highlights from the programme. With such a packed programme it is difficult but here are a few of the things I am particularly excited about:

The update from the Researcher development framework project (through workshops and the exhibition) is a first chance to see progress and give initial feedback on a framework that has the potential to have a big impact on every conference participant - definitely not to be missed!

With 100 different organisations proposing 190 different projects, the first round of funding though Vitae innovate has clearly captured a lot of people's imaginations - Professor John Wood's announcement of the funded projects on Tuesday evening will be a must see

Finally, a year on from the publication of the Rugby Team Impact Framework, I'm really looking forward to seeing the new report on what evaluation activities are happening across researcher training and development.

So that's what I'm most looking forward to - but what about you?  What are you making your must-see parts of the conference?  Are there workshops you couldn't bear to miss, speakers you can't wait to hear from or maybe there's a fringe session that's going to change your life?

I am looking forward to the conference, as always it is a brilliant opportunity to network and discuss all things researcher development related with like minded folks. It's a thing of gestalt. On the flip side, I'm not looking forward to travelling to Warwick University, a bit misleading as it is in Coventry, on the train as journey times are longer than Bristol to London! I'm also not that clear about where one has to go to register, the pre-conference directions are a little vague at best and the info on the Warwick conference site are no better.

Paul, glad to see that you'll be at the conference! I understand that the conference team have been in touch with you regarding your comment above. For anyone else reading - registration will be in the Rootes building. A map of the layout for the rest of the conference, plenary and workshop areas, will be provided at registration. Further imformation can be seen in the pre-conference information. If you have any other queries please get in touch. I look forward to seeing you there next week!

Peri, indeed they have been in touch and a detailed map of the relevant part of the campus has been added to the 'pre-conference info' section within the vitae conference overview section. I now know where to direct my taxi driver for registration! See you at the conference!
