It can be hard to engage many researchers on the topic of "commercial awareness"; an understanding of how business operates. Maybe it's because it all seems a bit too corporate and outside of the moral value set that researchers instinctively work toward that colours their opinions on enterprise? Maybe there is an issue about relevance at stake here also?

On the first day of #vitae10 conference we described a different way of conducting business - social enterprise - and how we are currently producing a set of resources that are specifically targeted at researchers to raise awareness of social enterprise. I recorded a summary of my thoughts on the matter in an audiocast which you can find right here: http://bit.ly/divJy3

The slides that I used in this session are now available to download from http://bit.ly/bmMD4j

I just wanted to thank you and the team for your great workshop on social enterprise for researchers at #vitae10. I was inspired and hope to run at least a 'train the trainer' event on this in 2011 for the NW region (although others are welcome of course!).

Thanks for the feedback Emma, it's heartening to know that others who are involved in the delivery of development sessions share my enthusiasm for this being a different & useful way to engage researchers on a variety of interconnected themes.

There are plans for a series of 'taster days' to be made available via the regional hubs over the coming months for both the social enterprise and the intrapreneurship resources that are to be available via the Vitae Resources section so please contact Jonathan Roberts at Vitae for more information on the timescales etc.
