The independent advisory panel who will evaluate the proposals and select preferred bidders for the 2010 round of innovate funding has now been fully confirmed. This also serves as a reminder that the deadline of 30 June is approaching fast!
Vitae innovate invites bids for funding of innovative projects to promote the personal, professional and career development of researchers. Up to a total of £100,000 will be allocated in this round of funding.
The panel will consist of:
- David Docherty, Chief Executive of the Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE).The CIHE is a strategic leadership network of businesses and higher education executives promoting a system of higher learning that leads to greater market competitiveness and social well-being
- Prof Dominic Houlihan, Vice-Principal for Research and Commercialisation, University of Aberdeen. His responsibilities include raising the University's research profile and level of research income through interaction with government, industry, the research councils and major charities. He is chairman of the Advisory Board of Interface - Scotland's knowledge connection for business. Professor Houlihan is a director of a number of University companies
- Dr Neil Jennings, National Student Switch Off energy-saving campaign Co-ordinator who will bring his experience of researcher- led innovative activities as his campaign was set up by Neil while undertaking a PhD at the University of East Anglia. The pilot campaign was supported by Roberts funding
- Dr Julie McLaren, Head of Corporate Strategy at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Until March 2010 Julie was Head of Postgraduate Training and Research Careers at the ESRC. In her current role Julie is responsible for ensuring the effective the delivery of the Council's Strategic Plan and acts as Secretary to ESRC Council. In her previous role Julie was responsible for developing the Council's policy in the people and skills area and lead on the development of the ESRC's new Postgraduate Training Framework
- Dr Chris Moore, R&D Specialist, UK Trade and Investment, who brings a wealth of experience covering knowledge transfer, Open Innovation, Intellectual Property assessment, engagement with early-stage companies and the VC community and developing routes to market in the USA and Europe
- Ellen Pearce, Director of Vitae. Ellen has worked in the field of postgraduate training and development for a number of years and oversees the delivery of the Vitae programme. She catalysed collaborative activities to support the development of enterprise skills for researchers, including co-authoring a recent report ‘Enterprise at work: exploring intrapreneurship in researcher development' published in 2008. Ellen is the currently working closely with the European Commission to support the implementation of the European Charter and Code for researchers in UK HEIs
- Dr Paul Redmond, Head of Careers and Employability Service, University of Liverpool is one of the country's leading experts on generational theory and the graduate labour market. Paul is vice-president of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts
