Enhancing Your Facilitation Skills12 July 2010

Event overview

Registration for this workshop will be at 10.00am for a 10.30am start

Presenter: Dr Caron King

About this course:

This workshop will further enhance your facilitation skills, enabling you to develop the delivery and design of any session that you are likely to have to deliver to a wide variety of different participants. The content can be applied to tutorials, practical courses and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as for adult learners with a variety of different subject matters.

The workshop will cover:

  • Getting started - including understanding your facilitation strengths and future development needs
  • Planning the session
  • Being prepared
  • Managing the delivery, including rapport building
  • Handling questions
  • Managing nerves
  • Handling poor behaviour, including provocation, procrastination and non-participation; problem solving and reframing
  • Follow up and review
  • If you only do five things...

The course will be highly participative.  In addition to delivering the skills needed to enhance your confidence and capability as a facilitator, the trainer will also model the skills required and will ‘deconstruct' her actions so that participants experience the theory, practical examples and have the opportunity to experiment for themselves.

This course is designed for anyone who would like to further enhance their ability to design and deliver a training-type workshop for themselves.  It is expected that participants will already be used to being in front of a group, and will have designed and delivered some short sessions.

What Previous Attendees Have Said

"In all honesty this has been one of the very best workshops I have been to."

"A bespoke session - very much driven by the needs of the participants but obviously structured in places so the perfect balance."

"A really helpful workshop, I have been training and facilitating for many years but it was great to reflect and remind myself of all the best practice/interventions. Very pragmatic and I now have a checklist for futures sessions at work"
