Embedding research in teaching 12 June 2012

Event overview

Tuesday, June 12, 2012
Oxford Brookes University
Buckley Building, Room BG11
Headington Campus, Oxford.

Want to use research in your teaching? This workshop presents examples of successful practice for embedding research in UG and PG teaching. During the day three/four speakers will discuss how they utilized research in teaching. Your participation involves working with other delegates to discuss these approaches and practicalities. These facilitated group discussions will enable you to develop ideas and plans to embed research in your own teaching. At the conclusion of the day, you should have at least three ideas (each with some development) that advance the process of embedding research in your teaching.

The speakers will talk about approaches designed to improve students' understanding and involvement in several aspects of research. Specifically, these are:

Involving students in research practice

Involving students in developing and understanding research methods and utlizing data

Involving students in the publication of research

While the examples are not all drawn from media and communications, emphasis in the discussions is on addressing the specific requirements of teaching research in this discipline. While anyone interested is welcome to attend, the workshop is most appropriate for lecturers who are yet to incoroporate research in teaching media and communication topics.
