Submission and viva

Once the thesis has been submitted, the focus turns to the viva, which can be a stressful time for many researchers.

What should I be doing at this stage?

• Encourage your researcher to check out the completing your doctorate section of the Vitae website
• Consider what tips you can offer them
• Ensure that the researcher is aware of the timescales between submission and the viva
• Encourage them to have a mock viva with you or another member of their supervisory team
• Encourage them to talk to other researchers who have recently been through the process.
