Conference on ‘STUDENT ALCOHOL (MIS)USE’ 30 March 2010

Event overview

The aim of the conference ....

... is to bring together all those interested in issues related to students' use of alcohol.    It is convened by researchers at the University of Northampton who have been undertaking research into students' use of alcohol, on a project entitled ‘Student Choice and Alcohol Matters' funded by the AERC.  The findings will be disseminated as part of the conference but we would welcome additional contributions from others working in this field.   Papers are welcome which consider issues related to the use of alcohol by students or by young people more generally that would be of relevance to those in education.

Themes of the conference:

  • students' alcohol-related perceptions and beliefs
  • the nature of students' (mis)use of alcohol
  • the culture of student drinking and ‘binge' drinking in general
  • policies and strategies in managing student drinking and its effects
  • alcohol issues within educational institutions and their local communities
  • the community and regional context of student use of alcohol
  • therapeutic approaches to students with alcohol problems

The conference should appeal to ....

.... academics and researchers with interests in this field; education administrative and support staff; therapists and counsellors involved with students; and those with interests in students/young people's alcohol use in local authorities, the police, the NHS, the not-for profit sector and the alcohol trade.
