Vitae researcher development conference 2010: realising the potential of researchers 06 September 2010 - 07 September 2010

Online discussions

In this section you will find:

Introduction

This year we will once again be using internet technologies to encourage greater sharing of information and views, extend the time period of conference discussions and enable those who are unable to attend the physical conference to access some of the information.

We will use the following tools:

  • Conference blog
  • Hashtag for current users of Web 2.0 tools
  • Twitter as an official back-channel for the conference

There is no obligation to use any of these tools. You will be able to access all of the Vitae conference without going online at all. However, some people may find that the experience of networking, sharing practice and discussion is enhanced by use of online tools.

Definitions

A blog is a website where entries are made in journal format and displayed in reverse chronological order with the most recent entry appearing first. They typically combine text, photos and links to other sites.

A hashtag is a label denoted by ‘#' that enables everyone to know which posts relate to the Vitae conference.  Our conference hashtag is #vitae10.

Twitter is a free tool that enables you to share updates on what you are doing with others. It is frequently used at conferences to facilitate discussion. http://twitter.com/

The website My Charity Connects has an excellent glossary of current webspeak if you are starting to find this difficult to follow. See http://mycharityconnects.org/web2_0glossary

Conference blog

We encourage presenters and participants to add articles and comments to the Vitae conference blog. To add an article, log in, go to the dashboard (top left of page) and select ‘my discussion articles'.  Logged in users can also comment on articles using the comments box beneath each article.

Hashtag

If you currently use any Web 2.0 services (e.g. Twitter, blogging tools, social bookmarking services) we would encourage you to use the hashtag #vitae10.
