Vitae East of England and South East Hubs Workshop: Advanced Facilitation Skills26 July 2011

Event overview

This Workshop is now full - we are now operating a reserve list in case of cancellations.

This day is for staff who support research staff and not for research staff or postgraduate researchers themselves.

This workshop is designed for individuals who regularly facilitate groups of individuals, whether for learning, exploring in depth and/or complex topics, decision-making or consensus forming purposes.  Participants who attend this advanced workshop will explore facilitation in significant depth, including taking best practice from both the programme facilitator and the course participants themselves, and will look specifically at the following subject areas:

  • Advanced facilitation methods, including best practice as experienced by delegates
  • Understanding your facilitation strengths and development needs, whatever stage of the facilitation process you are at
  • Setting up for success
    • understanding and meeting client objectives
    • from agenda to action
    • the follow up
  • Behaviour management
    • rapport building
    • provocation, procrastination and non-participation
    • deeper group dynamics
  • Problem solving and reframing
  • Behaviours and values
    • Developing your facilitation toolkit

This will be a highly interactive session, and is intended for those who are already comfortable with the basic facilitation process, enabling them to improve their facilitation know-how, skills and tools.
