This event is being hosted by the Vitae East of England Hub in collaboration with regional universities and research institutes.

This three day residential course has been Vitae's most popular event ever since its launch in 2009. It allows researchers; postgraduate students and research staff in the early stage of their career (post-doctorates and early career researchers) to explore and develop their leadership skills.  Participants have the opportunity to look at relevant theory, practice their unique leadership styles and receive feedback.

Is this course right for you?

This 3 day residential course will allow you to explore and develop your leadership skills.  You will have the opportunity to look at relevant theory, practice your leadership style and receive feedback.

What will it involve?

The course will be attended by researchers from across the region, from different disciplines and career stages.  The course will be led by a team of experienced facilitators who will work with you throughout the 3 days to support your learning.  They will be from a variety of backgrounds with experience in leadership, academia and other sectors.

This course takes a ‘learning by doing' approach. There will be presentations on leadership theory, but for the most part, you will be actively participating in the sessions and activities. 

This is an intensive 3 day residential course.  When registering for the course you will be expected to attend for the full duration.

Timing

The 3 day course will run from Monday 12th March from 10am approximately until 5pm on Wednesday 14th March 2012.

Eligibility

This event is only for early career researchers and postgraduate researchers based in the following East of England universities and research institutes, subject to availability:

  • Anglia Ruskin University
  • Babraham Institute
  • British Antarctic Survey
  • Cranfield University
  • National Institute for Biological Standards & Control
  • Norwich Research Park 
  • University of Bedfordshire
  • University Campus Suffolk
  • University of Cambridge
  • University of East Anglia
  • University of Hertfordshire
  • Rothamsted Research
  • University of Essex

Cost

Although this course is free of charge to the participant it does cost the organisers to run it.

If you book on and are then unable to attend you MUST inform the organisers asap.

Travel expenses will also have to be covered by participants. Some HEIs may offer support with this. 

CANCELLATION FEE

We will also request a £50 deposit cheque from you to guarantee your place on the course. Cheques will be held by Vitae and will only be cashed if you cancel your place less than two weeks prior to the course or if you fail to turn up on the day. Cheques will be returned on the last day of the course.

Additional information

The Vitae East of England Hub will not be able to cover travel expenses for participants.

Accommodation on Monday 12th March and Tuesday 13th March will be provided - there will be no charge for this.

Meals will be provided for the duration of the course, apart from dinner on the final day when the course will finish at approximately 5pm on Wednesday 14th March.

The Vitae East of England Hub will not be responsible for paying for purchases charged to a participant's room.  This includes alcoholic beverages.
