Distance Travelled: Sharing Practice and Progress on Researcher Development in Scotland and Northern Ireland14 November 2011

Event overview

This one-day event will focus on the progress made in researcher development since the launch of the Concordat in 2008.  The Concordat was launched in 2008, setting out a vision of optimal working practices, roles and responsibilities of research staff, their managers, employers and funders.  It aims to increase the attractiveness and sustainability of research careers in the UK, and to improve the quantity, quality and impact of research for the benefit of society and the economy.

This event presents an opportunity to take stock of progress towards these aims, with a focus on policy and practice at local and national level.  Workshops and speakers will draw on key themes emerging from recent Research Staff and PI surveys, as well as discussing implementation of the Concordat and the Researcher Development Framework (www.vitae.ac.uk/rdf), and the European Commission 'HR Excellence in Research' badge (http://www.vitae.ac.uk/policy-practice/353501/European-Commission-HR-Excellence-in-Research-badge-.html )

The event is intended for Vice Principals of Research, members of institutions’ research committees and senior staff with responsibilities for research management.  It is also aimed at HR Directors, Careers Directors, Heads of Staff Development and others concerned with the recruitment, management and career development of research staff.

An Open Space session to close the day will provide participants with the opportunity to surface remaining issues and consider next steps.

Registration for the event is free but places will be limited and, as we are hoping to achieve a representative mix of participants from the Scottish universities, to book your place please complete the online booking form:  BOOK ONLINE
