Vitae South East Hub presents a one-day workshop
Supervising Chinese Research Students January 13, 2010 University of Sussex 09:30 – 16:30 The workshop will use the theoretical perspectives of cross-cultural psychology to explain how Western supervision processes of Chinese research students are influenced by variables in the way that Chinese people communicate, perceive their relationships with each other and deal with conflict. It will examine the educational background of Chinese research students and the cultural and political differences between Chinese and Western societies. Interactive presentations will provide strategies for Western supervisors and Chinese research students to better understand each other’s backgrounds and perspectives in relation to the commencement of candidature and the formulation of a research question, the provision of feedback on written work during candidature and the presentation of conclusions and the submission of the thesis. Places on this workshop are free but places will be limited. addresses the cultural gaps between Australians and Chinese in the fields of commerce and education. She specialises in strategic planning, management and marketing practice for
international organisations (both commercial and educational) to understand the Chinese market. Dr Chung is a frequent guest speaker at public forums and tertiary institutions and is the author of an extensive list of publications in cross-cultural business studies. Professor Richard Ingleby is a member of the Victorian Bar and a Visiting Professor at
University of Sussex
