Vitae Yorkshire and North East Hub Conference and Events Grant

Applications are invited from inter-institutional teams of postgraduate researchers and/or early career researchers within the Yorkshire and North East region for organising a short-term, well-defined conference or event. The event can be subject-specific, interdisciplinary or generic in nature but musttransferable training element to it.

Applicants should submit an application form in which they will be asked to describe their proposed project, explain its relevance for the potential audience, and explain the generic training element that it will include, justify the expenditure requested and provide a time-line for the completion of the project. The maximum level for this award is for £1500 however you may use funding secured from other sources to supplement this if you wish. Funding can be used for most purposes; however it cannot be used for provide travel bursaries for attendance.
In addition to funding, The Vitae Yorkshire and North East Hub can also provide:
- Project management support
- Equipment on loan, including, laptop, and Data projector.
As a condition of the award, successful applicants will be required to write a short report after the event or conference which will focus on the lessons learned from the event and the main outcomes of the generic training element. The report will then be published on the Vitae Yorkshire and North East Hub web pages.
Applications will be considered by a ‘Vitae Yorkshire and North East Hub Conference and Event Grant Panel' made up of representatives from the Vitae Yorkshire and North East Hub steering group and the result published two weeks after the submission date. The review guidelines, eligibility criteria and assessment criteria are all published on the Vitae YNE Hub web page, please ensure your application meet all criteria before submitting your application.

The closing date for all applications will be: 23.59 on 18th March 2011
Postgraduate researchers who wish to submit an application should discuss their ideas and submission with their supervisors; however applications should only be submitted by the postgraduate researchers and or early career researchers themselves. Applications will not be accepted from supervisors, principal investigators or research managers.
Details:
- To include at least 5 postgraduate researchers or early career researchers[1] on the planning team
- For members of the planning team to come from at least 2, different institutions from within the Yorkshire and North East region.
- To have more than 50 participants attending the proposed event.
- The event / conference must run before end of July 2011
- For booking to be conducted through the Vitae Website but with local management of the bookings.
- The conference must have a well defined generic training element to it.
- The hub would fund any meetings/pre arranged travel expenses that the organisers felt was necessary in order to plan and arrange the conference up to a limit of £500.
- A post conference meeting between the outgoing grant holders to the incoming grant holders to hand over knowledge.
[1] Definition of early career researchers are defined as not having spent longer than 5 years in active research either since receiving their PhD, or since working as a researcher. If time has been taken off outside of active research i.e. maternity leave etc, then longer than 5 years is acceptable but must be explained.
