Vitae Connections Programme 2012: using Vitae resources to develop the skills and careers of researchers

As part of the Vitae Connections 2012 programme, Vitae is providing two, one-day workshops for those new to facilitating learning and development activities for researchers. These practical events provide an in-depth introduction to facilitation skills, combined with a toolkit of practical resources that you can use with researchers to develop their capabilities.

Session 1 (May) - Vitae Connections 2012: Facilitation skills for those working with researchers

  • This practical one-day workshop will provide an opportunity to:
  • Consider the theory behind facilitation techniques to use with researchers
  • Review the targeted skills and understanding required to meet researchers needs
  • Understand how to set up an appropriate learning environment for researchers
  • Develop your skills in how to listen, observe and interpret information from groups
  • Practice techniques for asking great questions to draw out participant learning
  • Learn how to deal with typical situations, difficult participants and managing group energy
  • Practice creative techniques for using resources with researchers

Session 2 (Nov) - Vitae Connections 2012: Facilitation skills for those working with researchers

Following session 1 there will be six months for participants to practice their facilitation skills and will be supported to share experiences with other participants via a Vitae Connections on-line community group.  Session 2 is a one-day workshop that will provide an opportunity to:

  • Reflect on your experiences over the last six months
  • Consider what skills you need to develop further to facilitate researchers
  • Practice using the facilitation techniques developed from session one with guidance from expert trainers
  • Get hands on experience of using Vitae learning and development materials in a researcher context
