Procrastination, perfectionism and over-commitment
Vitae London and South East hubs joint event
21 January 2011
ROOM ALTERATION!
The Macmillan Hall - University of London
Do you find that despite your best efforts to ‘work on your thesis' or get your research output going it just doesn't seem to be happening? Does there always seem to be something more urgent, interesting or important to do? If you're a procrastinator, a perfectionist or an over-committor then this workshop is for you. This is much more than a time management seminar. This workshop will explain why you do these things and what you can do about them. It draws on the best psychological research to explain why procrastination and other self-sabotaging behaviours like perfectionism and over-committing can be very appealing but are ultimately self-defeating.
In this workshop you will learn:
- The real reasons we procrastinate and the secret key to motivation and getting things done
- How perfectionism gets in the way and finding more realistic standards
- How over-commitment happens and what to do about it
This workshop would also benefit staff supporting the development of researchers in understanding how to help researchers overcome procrastination, perfectionism and over-commitment.
About the speaker:
Hugh Kearns describes himself as an expert on procrastination. You might think you're pretty good at it too, however he lectures and researches in this area at Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia. He is internationally recognised for his ability to take the latest research in psychology and education and apply it to high-performing people and groups. He has published many books on these topics and he is in high demand as a speaker across Australia and internationally.
