CROS and PIRLS 2011
Sir Ivor Crewe, chair of the Concordat Strategy Group, is writing to Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Principals to formally urge HEIs to participate in two important UK surveys which will provide valuable benchmarking information of institutions' progress in implementing the principles of the Concordat and provide evidence of how institutions are enhancing the research environment.
Careers in Research Online Survey (CROS) 2011
CROS is designed to explore the working conditions, career aspirations and career development opportunities for research staff. All institutions are encouraged to run CROS this year. The CROS Steering Group has agreed to move CROS to a biennial survey, so the next CROS will run in 2013. CROS 2011 will be open for HEIs to run 1 March to 31 May 2011.
Principal Investingators and Research Leaders Survey (PIRLS) 2011
To complement CROS, the Concordat Strategy Group and CROS Steering Group agreed to redevelop the 2005 Research Leaders survey as part of the Concordat benchmarking projects. The aim of the PIRLS is to gain responses from principal investigators on how they gained the experience and capabilities that have made them research leaders, and on how the research leaders of tomorrow may gain the experience and capabilities that they will need. PIRLS will also run every two years and it will be open for HEIs to run between 1 May and 30 June 2011.
For more information on CROS or PIRLS and to register your interest in running either of the surveys please contact Mike Gulliver from Bristol Online Survey firstname.lastname@example.org or Tom Papworth, Concordat Implementation Coordinator email@example.com. Please register your interest as early as possible as this will help in setting up the benchmarking groups.
