Personal profile:
A dynamic trainer who delivers stimulating workshops on leadership, coaching, mentoring and achieving personal goals. A high performance specialist: an experienced executive coach, leadership mentor, facilitator and consultant.
Biography:
Anthony Brister CBE - Owner and Director, AB Coaching and Leadership Ltd. Anthony is a high performance specialist, who helps individuals and teams to achieve great results. He is a qualified, experienced, energising executive coach and leadership mentor, an enlightening facilitator, an insightful consultant and a dynamic trainer. He is highly skilled in helping leaders to clarify and achieve their goals by becoming more fully aware of the issues that they face, thinking them through, identifying and evaluating options for action, selecting the best option and implementing it. Through his company, AB Coaching and Leadership Ltd, he offers: • 1:1 Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring. • Team Coaching and Facilitation. • Consultancy: particularly around leadership, organisational effectiveness, and training and development. • Training: in leadership, executive coaching, mentoring, and achieving goals. Before becoming a professional coach and consultant several years ago, Anthony had a full career in the British Army. He has 35 years and more experience of leadership at every level from infantry platoon (about 40 people) in the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, to leader of a large specialist training organisation with 6 schools on 5 sites in the rank of Brigadier, then leader of a team responsible for implementing new, ground-breaking HR procedures across the Army and delivering the associated training, and finally Director of the Army’s Educational and Training Services, responsible for learning and development across the Army (over 100,000 people). In the course of all this, Anthony has risen to the constant demands of leadership at all levels (strategic, operational and tactical); delivered challenging targets, on time, within budget; managed change on change; and dealt with the unexpected. He has taken great pride in developing strong teams and helping to unleash the potential of those whom he has had the privilege to lead. Now, as a professional coach, consultant and trainer he has worked with a wide variety of clients including from the Commercial, Education, Health, Social Care and Charity sectors, the Prison Service and the Ministry of Defence, and across a very wide age/experience range including board members, senior executives, postdoctoral researchers, postgraduate students and young people. His approach as a coach is normally non-directive (helping individuals to work out their own solutions to the issues that they face), but he also provides ideas, options for consideration, advice and guidance based on his own knowledge and experience when appropriate. He is able quickly to grasp the issues and help good leaders to work out how to become even better and those who are having difficulties to think through how to resolve them – and then to do so.
Testimonial one:
Tony Brister has proved to be a very popular trainer at the University of Kent providing training for postgraduate students on leadership and coaching. Over the years Tony has proved extremely reliable and very flexible to the changing needs of our skills programme. Tony has a vast range of experience which he brings to his training sessions and is extremely popular with students. Feedback from Tony’s session is always positive: “Tony’s coaching style was very engaging, he listened, he responded and built the workshop around us.” “Tony is really experienced and knows how to interact with us, he is well organised and prepared, the format of the workshop is stimulating.” "Tony’s workshop was entertaining, engaging and used simple but effective techniques." Rhiannon Binns Transferable Skills Training Co-ordinator University of Kent
Testimonial two:
Anthony accepted a brief which asked for a lot in a short time. Nevertheless his presentation and delivery on leadership and management issues exceeded our expectations. Anthony gave us information and, through his interactive approach, an understanding of the subjects which many would have taken much longer to explain. We have come away from the experience more knowledgeable and better prepared for the future. Graham Chase Senior Partner Chase & Partners LLP
Testimonial three:
I was very fortunate to attend one of Anthony's courses on non-directive coaching. Anthony presented the topic with clarity and I was left with a clear understanding of the subject and how I could use it to benefit both myself and others. I would sincerely recommend working with Anthony, he is extremely personable and is clearly an expert in his field.” Caroline Tolley Ph.D. Student University of Kent

Additional information Back to top

Additional information:
Over the last 3 years I have delivered a variety of workshop programmes at the University of Kent as part of their Postgraduate Transferable Skills Programme and I am due to do so again next Academic Year (11/12). The programmes have comprised both full day and half day workshops as follows: Personal Goals and Non-Directive Coaching: a series of workshops addressing how to clarify and achieve personal goals through the use of coaching techniques. Being a Leader: a series of workshops addressing the whole issue of leadership, the different approaches that can be taken depending on the circumstances, motivation and teambuilding. I can provide more details of the workshops that I deliver at Kent, if that would be helpful, but I would, of course, design any programmes of workshops at other universities to fulfil your specific requirements.
