- Biography:
- Peter Robinson A message that Grad Schools try to put over is that the career one chooses on leaving university doesn’t have to be fixed for life. As a Geography graduate I should have become a teacher or weatherman. Instead, I worked for Clarks shoes, in manufacturing, retail, and marketing before travelling to the Far East to set up supply lines for components for the UK factories. After 10 years in the shoe industry I joined Stannah Stairlifts before being head-hunted to work in the rail industry. This was a fantastic challenge and the roles that I did grew larger. Whilst this made me much better off, and made a great deal of money for my employers, it became less fulfilling and in 2003 I joined the consultancy team at COI. COI is part of the UK Government (a Cabinet Office agency) and is the second largest advertiser in the country. I look after the Crime and Justice portfolio of clients which includes the Home Office, Courts, Prisons and Probation. Having spent my career persuading people to buy things that would prefer not to have to, I now persuade people not to do things that they shouldn’t. The work that I have recently worked on includes Drugs, Child Protection, Fraud, and Victims Rights. I currently supervise up to 30 project teams which can be very tricky but is a real eye opener. I know that Grad School Tutors all have amazing social lives. I am much more conventional, dividing my time between projects with our local church, scouts and refereeing fights between my two sons.
