- Personal profile:
- An experienced technical manager, with proven industrial research and development leadership and subsequent high-profile roles in higher education and commerce. Over two decades involvement in graduate and postgraduate recruitment and development and currently engaged with an established and successful small business with higher education sector clients. Substantial experience of directing national and local graduate schools and actively involved in programmes for postgraduate researchers and contract research staff.
- Testimonial one:
- Andrew Bottomley has delivered a selection of training and development opportunities for postgraduates and postdoctoral researchers at the University of Cambridge. Specifically, his expertise in delivering MBTI workshops and his capacity to offer aptitude tests has allowed Cambridge to extend the range of development opportunities it can offer its researchers beyond the expertise of existing staff. Andrew is an experienced trainer, and his professional and friendly approach has made him very popular with researchers at the University. Ms Liz Simmonds, University of Cambridge
- Testimonial two:
- I am aware of Andrew’s excellent work both as a GRADschool tutor and an independent consultant in evaluation work. Andrew can provide a great service in independent evaluation of the training needs of researchers and for example their views of an existing training and development programme. Andrew has a rigorous focus group led approach and his findings can be very much relied upon. It is a valuable additional strand to evaluation of any training programme to gain an external independent view. Andrew is also very experienced in terms of GRADschools. He has tutored for us on our local White Rose Interpersonal Skills School (WRISS – A combined event with participants from the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York). I personally found him excellent to work with. He has very broad knowledge and experience in general and is a valuable team member. ‘ Dr Tony Bromley, Vitae Yorkshire Hub
- Testimonial three:
- I have known Andrew for a number of years – since the time he took up the post of Director of the Careers Service at the University of Reading. In that role he became a member of the Careers Advisory Board here at Bristol (in November 1996) and continued on the Board after leaving Reading to join PricewaterhouseCoopers as the Head of their University and Schools Marketing Team and subsequently founding BHR Associates Ltd. He was appointed Chairman of our Careers Advisory Board in November 2000 and still holds that position today. During that time I have worked alongside Andrew in a range of contexts – we have collaborated on projects, given presentations together and I now work closely with him in relation to our Board and on strategic matters concerning the future of the Careers Service in Bristol. Andrew is a highly skilled and experienced professional. He has excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to give an effective presentation to a range of audiences. His judgment is sound – a quality which has been important in his central and occasionally political role here. As you might expect from his background, he has a very good knowledge of the graduate recruitment market and of what is required of students to succeed in entering graduate employment. He has the capacity to build very effective relationships with a wide range of people including senior academics, recruiters and colleagues. He also cares genuinely about the needs of students and is quick to develop a rapport with them – his professional manner inspiring confidence in them. He is an enthusiastic, energetic, committed individual who will give 100% effort to whatever he takes on - he has demonstrated a great deal of creativity and initiative in his various positions over the last few years. He is both a helpful and supportive member of a team and an effective leader – able to adapt his style to the appropriate circumstance. He is conscientious, an efficient organiser and has good IT skills. I have no hesitation in recommending him for your consideration . Jeff Goodman, Director, University of Bristol Careers Service.
