Event overview

The Effective Part-time Researcher - Effective Part-time Progress

A one-day programme for part-time postgraduate researchers early in the 'middle part' of their part-time PhD.

 Learning objectives

  • To recognize the progress they have made so far, and how this relates to the overall project
  • To be aware of critical success factors for the 'middle part (second year FTE) of a part-time PhD, from the perspective of supervisors, as well as from other postgraduate researchers, and to consider how they might develop and implement some of these
  • To understand the requirements of a PhD, including the assessment criteria they will be judged against
  • To begin to define and refine both their research hypothesis and their thesis structure
  • To analyse how they are currently managing their part-time PhD process, and to consider strategies for doing so more effectively; and,
  • To develop a short- mid-term action plan on the basis of this coverage.
