Outline

The proactive engagement of researchers in their own personal and career development is an important component of The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. With this in mind, the UK Research Staff Association (UKRSA) was established in 2010 to provide a collective voice for researchers at institutions across the UK by nurturing communities of research staff and providing input into policy affecting them.

A key area of interest for the UKRSAis researcher training and development. This workshop will describe current UKRSA involvement in training and development activities, and will highlight the benefits of working with the UKRSA for training and development professionals. Importantly, the workshop will also give training and development professionals and members of the UKRSA the opportunity to explore opportunities for collaboration in order to achieve shared goals both locally and UK-wide.

Topics covered will include:

  • Overview of the UKRSA
  • Building a body of evidence to support research staff associations
  • Nurturing communities of researchers in shared practice
  • Giving research staff associations a UK voice to tackle big issues

Outcomes

Participants will:

  • be aware of the UKRSA, including how to communicate with committee members and support UKRSA activities
  • have knowledge of current UKRSA training and development activities
  • understand the benefits of interacting with UKRSA
  • explore ways that UKRSA members and training and development professionals can collaborate in order to achieve shared goals.

Format

Brief Powerpoint presentation, reflection and dialogue with participants.
