Biography
Robin leads CRAC's work in research and evaluation and acts as its principal researcher, undertaking research projects for Government, HEFCE and other clients. His main research focus is around STEM careers, graduate employment and employability, work experience and internships, and careers in research. Robin has previously worked in other senior leadership roles at CRAC, following an earlier career in international scientific publishing. His direct use of his PhD in volcanology is limited, but his career is some testament to the wider value of a science background and research training, in both industry and the third sector.
In the past year Robin has had a real focus on HE work experience and internships, having evaluated both the Graduate Talent Pool internships service for BIS and HEFCE's subsidised undergraduate and graduate internship schemes, and conducted a specific investigation of work experience and internships in relation to STEM students and subjects. This workshop utilises findings from a new piece of work commissioned by Vitae. He has also conducted the analysis and written reports on the national aggregate results of this year's CROS and PIRLS surveys.
