Biography
David Abbott is a senior research fellow at the Norah Fry Research Centre, University of Bristol. He joined the centre in 1999 and has worked on a number of projects relating to disabled children and young people around residential special school, direct payments, multi-agency working, children with complex health care needs and transition.
A recently concluded national study looked at issues for gay, lesbian and bisexual people with learning difficulties. He currently works on a study which explores transition issues for young men with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in collaboration with the Duchenne Family Support Group and the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
David has taken an active role in promoting the interests of research staff within the university. He presented a workshop on a career in academic research at the 2005 Bristol University Research Staff Conference, a key note speech at the 2006 conference, and chaired the conference in 2008. He has been on the conference organising committee since 2004. David is a research staff representative and a member of the University Working Party on Research staff. In addition he sits on the university's decision making committee for the Research Staff Departmental Project Fund.
