Biography

After completing her PhD in immunology in Dublin in 1996, Anne wanted to give research another chance, and moved to Germany to do a three year postdoc. Her project was high risk but she loved the atmosphere in the lab and learned a lot. However, Anne felt she didn't have the passion or talent to become a principal investigator so she slowly started to explore careers in science communication. After a year of applying for various things, Anne got a part-time role as German correspondent for the career development website ScienceCareers which evolved into a full-time job the following year. Anne loved the networking and communication element of science writing but wanted a more people focused job. In 2006, she joined the University of Cambridge Careers Service as a careers adviser for life science postdocs. Her current job combines her interest in science and scientific careers, with her passions for communication and people.
