Workshop Outline:

There are many examples of successful research staff networks. This workshop explores a few approaches with different agendas. The UCU is two years into a major project to recruit, organise and campaign on behalf of research staff in UK higher education. Our presentation will survey the initiatives we have undertaken to begin to make the researcher's voice a louder presence on our campuses and will look to draw out some lessons from our work so far.

David Abbott will talk about the Bristol research staff representation model. The session will be chaired by Jo Rees, who is part of the Cambridge postdoc association, PDoC. Your input on networks that you may be part of will be very much encouraged.

Format:

Information, interaction and discussion

Outcomes:

  • Recommendations and next steps for building successful institutional and local networks able to influence both policy and practice
  • Recommendations for building the Vitae national network for research staff
