Workshop outline:
Researchers share many common issues across disciplines and institutions. With the development of online communities comes the opportunity to connect more easily with other researchers. This session will explore:
- who is using online communities to their benefit
- what online communities can be useful for
- why researchers are using online communities to share experiences, raise issues and learn from peers.
This session will cover:
- the growth of technology in enhancing communication
- shared experiences of interacting online
- developing a digital identity in the global marketplace
- the potential for development and use of online communities for research staff
- the use of blogs for researchers.
Format:
- Information, interaction and discussion.
- Participants should also be prepared to include examples from their own experience during discussion.
Outcomes:
- To explore the digital world and discuss how researchers can use it to:
- develop their reputation
- advance research
- share experiences
- To identify the characteristics of the ideal online community(ies) for research staff
- Recommendations for developing and using online communities
- Recommendations for the further development of a national online community
