Workshop outline

The Careers in Research Online Survey (CROS) is a national initiative to gather the views of research staff in UK higher education institutions about their experiences of and attitudes to employment, as well as their career aspirations and career development. CROS was relaunched in 2009 with a record number of HEIs and researchers taking part. In this workshop we will present an overview of the aggregated UK results and match it against expectation of the participating research staff members. We will discuss whether participants recognise the outcomes and what factors may influence different responses.

This session will cover:

  • presentation of UK aggregate results from the 2009 CROS survey
  • key findings on a national basis
  • themes emerging from the responses.

Format:

Presentation of key results, questions and answers, wider discussion.

Outcomes:

  • Provide an overview of the views of research staff on a national basis
  • Raise awareness of availability of national/local data
  • Explore how institutions use the data and opportunities for research staff to get involved
