Workshop outline:
Researchers have a multitude of skills that they can use in a wide variety of careers. However, sometimes they lack information on their options and exposure to former researchers who have had successful careers outside academia. This workshop will provide researchers with some useful statistics, exploration tools and career resources that are available to them to make informed choices. In addition, we hope to generate discussion on resources that could be developed in the future.
This session will cover:
- some highlights from first employment destination statistics of doctoral graduates from Vitae's' What do researchers do?' and other trends for researchers' employment destinations
- other careers resources that are available to researchers
- several interactive exercises to explore career motivations and experiences.
Format:
Information, interaction and discussion.
Outcomes:
- Highlight resources about careers available to researchers
- Input into Vitae's development of resources for researchers
