Research Leadership in the Biological Sciences: Planning your next step
A one-day workshop for research staff in the Biological Sciences - currently working under a principal investigator - who are looking to take the next step in their career to becoming a research leader themselves.
The day will bring together research staff working in the Biological Sciences to look at issues such as:
- Career paths in the Biological Sciences
- Your current strengths
- Your future goals
- Enhancing your profile
- Finding the right job
- Developing an action plan
The workshop is free of charge and open to any member of research staff, working in the Biological Sciences, in the South East. Numbers, however, must be strictly limited. To book click here.
The workshop will be led by:
Sophia Karagiannis
Sophia is a Senior Research Fellow at the St. John's Institute of Dermatology, King's College London School of Medicine. She gained her PhD in Biophysics and Immunology from KCL in 1995 and has since held research posts at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, KCL and Adprotech Ltd. She now leads a research team an Kings' College London within the Cutaneous Medicine and Immunotherapy Unit engaged in translational research on the discovery of monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of cancer. Her research is supported by the National Institutes of Health Research Biomedical Research Centre, the CR UK New Agents Committee, the CR UK/EPSRC/MRC/NIHR KCL/UCL Comprehensive Cancer Imaging Centre and the British Skin Foundation.
Paul Toombs
Paul has over 30 years experience in enabling people to be superior performers. Since graduating with a Business Management degree Paul has worked with multinational organizations. Before moving into consultancy he worked for SKF, (Swedish), Goodyear, (US), and Portals, (UK). He moved into consultancy in 1990 and he has continued to work internationally for companies such as Siemens, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Johnson & Johnson. In the UK he retains links with universities and works nationally with researchers. He is a leader for the suite of Effective Researcher courses; directs and tutors on GRADschools; leads Broadening Horizons, a course on career management; and leads the Leadership in Action course. He also facilitates skills development sessions for undergraduates, post graduates, researchers and academics.
