In spring 2010 Vitae ran two masterclasses in its series of five planned for this year. The masterclasses are aimed at staff supporting researchers who are looking to innovate and develop their training provision.

In March, the ‘Training needs analysis (TNA) and Personal development planning' (PDP) masterclass brought together 15 participants to explore TNA and PDP and gain a greater understanding of the scope of these topics, potential benefits of using them and to investigate a variety of forms for how they could be implemented in their own institutions.

The day generated lots of discussion and provided a valuable opportunity to share ideas, practices and explore how to address specific issues.

The ‘Creativity' masterclass which took place in May looked at understanding the nature and nurture of creativity, its central role in postgraduate research and how a more creative approach can be brought by skills developers to the delivery of wider skills training.

'A fantastic workshop - useful tools and tips, increasing knowledge and skills and showing best practice

There are three further masterclasses running this year on the following topics:

  • Neuro linguistic programming (NLP) in researcher development programmes (Thursday 29 July, London)
  • Demonstrating impact: evaluation (Tuesday 21 September, London)
  • Coaching and mentoring (Tuesday 19 October, Newcastle)

If you would be interested in attending one of these masterclasses, you can find further details, including a booking form, at www.vitae.ac.uk/masterclasses
