Be part of Engineering YES in 2012 - We are now Open for Booking
This award winning, prestigious enterprise training programme is now open for booking.
Engineering YES is open to Research Students and Research Staff who would like develop a more commercial awareness of research and how to maximise its impact in the wider economy.
Engineering YES draws together researchers from Universities around the country. It is a training programme with a difference - it is a high pressure, highly experiential course which wraps enterprise training in a team-based business plan competition.
Using information from industry presentations and access to a skilled mentor pool, each team needs to build a credible business plan for a fictitious spin-out product or service. Do the best presentation to the panel of industry drawn judges, and as well as winning a place in the Grand Final, these team members may have just built the networking connections they need to take their research to the next level or take their first steps in a successful career beyond academia.
On completing this programme, participants will have a thorough knowledge of what is involved to take a great discovery in a University and make it a commercial success and will have had a lot of fun along the way. Feedback shows that dedicated career researchers will benefit just as much from the programme as those who think they might have a more entrepreneurial career ahead of them.
We are aiming to attract around 100 participants from around 10 different HEIs to the programme this year. Engineering YES is a fully residential 3.5 day programme. In 2012 we are running 3 training heats, and the top two teams from each go through to contest the Grand Final which is held at the Birmingham Science Park Aston.
Participant places cost £750.00 each. Institutions typically draw funds from EPSRC enterprise training budgets, HEIF enterprise funding, or more general researcher skills development budgets to support their researchers on this programme. We are also actively looking for Industry sponsorship for participant places for those institutions who may not have access to such funds.
