The 2012 Vitae Policy Forum was an important opportunity for institutions to explore the attractiveness to and supply of researchers through UK higher education. It identified the implications for training and developing researchers, taking into account the outcomes from Sir Tim Wilson's review of university-industry collaborations, QAA consultation on the UK Quality Code for Higher Education Research Degrees, Research Excellence Framework and Concordat measures of progress.

Outcomes and recommendations from the workshops and plenary sessions and how Vitae's work in 2012 will support Policy Forum themes are detailed/outlined in the full report: Vitae Policy Forum 2012.

The forum explored the attractiveness to and supply of researchers through UK higher education. It aimed to identify the implications for training and developing researchers by:

  • considering the information needs of prospective postgraduate researchers
  • examining the demographics of the research staff cohort to explore the attractiveness of the UK
  • higher education research environment and potential sustainability of the UK research base
  • taking into account the outcomes from Sir Tim Wilson's review of university-industry collaborations, QAA consultation on the UK Quality Code for Higher Education Research Degrees, Research Excellence Framework and Concordat measures of progress.
