9 reasons to attend ‘Advancing in academia’ on the 29 March in Manchester

Following the current trend in posting ‘9 reasons to’ on this blog, here is mine….
Advancing in academia is a one day event specifically for members of research staff who want to have an academic career or are exploring academia as one of their career options. So why attend?:
- This event addresses how to succeed in a competitive and complex research environment and will allow you to think about the pros and cons of different career options available.
- review where you are in your career, where you want to be and how to get there
- develop an action plan to strategically manage your career.
- ask questions that you've always wanted to but weren't sure who to ask
- understand the balance required between skills, achievements and building your professional profile
- review the current higher education environment
- meet with successful academics from a range of disciplines to hear how they advanced their academic career
- network with researchers in a similar position and with similar ambitions to you as well as with different successful acadamics
- it is free and really well organised and catered
What did people think who attended last year?
“The academic promotion activity showed me how important it is to sell myself and that decisions made while at work are important as they can have different impacts”
“It was good to relate to researchers from different subject areas and good to talk to people in the same position”
“all the exercises were great and really useful; loved the career paths and senior academic presentation as inspiring and offered lots of advice; liked demystification of expectations and difficulties in HE”

I'm considering coming but I never register for these things until I've seen a detailed programme. Can you tell me when one will be available?
