I like the north: in my view amazing scenery, friendly people and stotty bread more than make up for the challenges of finding a good cup of coffee. I’m excited, then, that Vitae’s annual conference is in Manchester and that I’ve got the opportunity to go along. Not only do I get to explore the UK’s second city, there’s what looks like an incredible range of presentations and activities – from creative facilitation to the Roberts Report – on researcher development.
I’m sure a number of us will be blogging from the conference and feeding back key information for the research community. But this brief post is to put it out there that I, at least, will be in Manchester next week (the conference runs Monday to Tuesday) and would love to put some names to faces from the blog. Is anyone else planning on attending? Do any of the UKRSA folk have particular session recommendations? And is there scope for a get-together?

As an unemployed researcher, that conference is out for me. £272 (for the cheapest day rate) is about what I get a month!

I'm not entirely sure what the inhabitants of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast and Birmingham would make of you describing Manchester as "the UK's second city"... :)

Ha! - you know, that thought did cross my mind as I was writing the post, Andy, but for some reason I had in my head that Manchester was known as that. I think I meant 'England's second city' - unless Birmingham beats Manchester to it? It seems appropriate to have a city in the north, though...

Edinburgh?
Glasgow?!
What about Dundee? We're Scotland's 4th city!
