When we talked with disabled postgraduate researchers about their experiences, some described their reluctance to disclose their disability to the institution and/or to the Research Councils which were funding them. There were fears that disclosure would have a negative impact on their application or their relationship with academics.

Others talked about the necessity for disclosure so that essential adjustments could be made. If you are unsure, have a look at the university's prospectus and information for disabled applicants. Talk with the disability service about the types of support that would be available to you as a disabled researcher. It is essential that you weigh up the pros and cons, the decision is your choice.
