I love the name- would Occam have used a razor if modern technology (okay that’s tongue in cheek- who of you have used an actual typewriter rather than a computer?) had been available? Occam’s typewriter is a multi author blog, where different author’s have their own sub-blogs (?)
I have praised the fabulous Jenny Rohn before. Her blog on Occam’s razor is called Mind the Gap. Her latest post is on parochialism which is a great read on its own and the comment thread significantly adds to it too.
I see Athene Donald’s blog as a grown up version of this one- or maybe as a mentor. Which is appropriate as Athene is a sound role model and mentor for women in Science and engineering. However, the scary thing is she writes this blog all on her own- thoughtful, insightful, thorough and frequent! Along of course with all the tweeting, sitting on lots of important committees, public speaking and mmmm, running a very successful research group that she does…
10 things you should know about election to the Royal Society is a really good piece clarifying the process of election to the loftiest of British scientific societies and defending the gender ratio of its fellows.
How many arms do you have? Is about the extreme amount of multi tasking life of an academic requires. Again, the comments really add to Athene’s posts, with someone replying to this one something along the lines of: it’s not so much an extra pair of arms I need but a body double.
So, that sets the bar for our own wee blog…. Anyone up for a challenge?
