What is the relationship between the Concordat and the RDF?

www.researchconcordat.ac.uk

The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers (Concordat) provides a set of principles for supporting and  managing research careers in the United Kingdom, outlining the responsibilities and expectations of researchers and of those who manage, employ or fund them.

The Concordat is based around seven principles, three of which relate directly to the Researcher development framework:

  • Principle 3: ‘Researchers are equipped and supported to be adaptable and flexible in an increasingly diverse, mobile, global research environment.'
  • Principle 4: ‘The importance of researchers' personal and career development, and lifelong learning, is clearly recognised and promoted at all stages of their career'.
  • Principle 5: ‘Individual researchers share the responsibility for and need to pro-actively engage in their own personal and career development, and lifelong learning'.

The RDF has been designed to be of use to both individual researchers and those managing, supervising, supporting or funding them. The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers section provides further information on how it supports the implementation of the three principles.
