Increasing the impact and engagement of researchers
The Researcher Development Framework provides an overarching framework to support researchers in identifying the wide range of knowledge, behaviours and attributes of excellent researchers.
Lenses on the Vitae Researcher Development have been developed to focus on the knowledge, behaviours and attributes that are developed by researchers and that can be acquired through or used in various contexts such as enterprise, information literacy, intrapreneurship, leadership, public engagement and teaching.
How lenses on the Researcher Development Framework can be used
Researchers may wish to use a lens on the Researcher Development Framework to:
- identify how activities can contribute to their professional development as a researcher
- recognise how their knowledge, behaviours and attributes as a researcher are relevant to such activities
- select knowledge, behaviours and attributes that they need to develop to be more professional in such activities
- explore how the Vitae Researcher Development Framework relates to other professional frameworks and vice versa, and how their knowledge, behaviours and attributes can help achieve recognition from professional bodies
- provide evidence of the transferability of their knowledge, behaviours and attributes in their CV, in job applications and at interviews.
Researcher Developers may wish to use a lens on the Researcher Development Framework to:
- encourage researchers to engage in activities such as enterprise, public engagement or teaching by illustrating how these contribute towards their professional development as a researcher
- enable researchers to recognise the learning they have acquired in other contexts and highlight the transferability of their knowledge, behaviours and attributes
- use the lenses with researchers to highlight personal development needs and create action plans
- strategically align training and development around lenses.
