Tomorrow I shall join the great and the good for the Vitae Research Staff Conference.  I’m attending with a purpose – to gather inspiration for pushing forward a new research staff association at my university.

I think going with questions in mind will really add to the experience and this year there is lots planned around the topic of local research staff associations including networking events where I hope to connect with other RSAs in the midlands.

The further I get into my research career, the harder it seems to be to make time for events such as this, but I’m so pleased that I managed to prioritise the Vitae Conference.  It’s such a good opportunity to get energised about the big picture stuff for researchers – lifting my head out of my immediate workload for a few precious hours.

It reminds me that there are lots of very engaged researchers (and people working with researchers) trying to improve things for all of us and I hope that it will give me plenty of ideas to take back to my university.  Maybe I’ll even meet a few of my fellow bloggers there...

**note to anyone else attending – I’ll be the one in the shiny purple boots, with the big relaxed smile (- because I’m not presenting at this one!)

Hi John - apologies - there was so much going on that I didn't get time to blog during the conference - but I have written a post tonight trying to give a broad overview of some of the things covered.

And Tennie - I did notice while you were presenting that my uniquely coloured footwear wasn't quite so unique - we clearly both have exquisite taste in boots!
