Having the "Sense About Science"
Last year I attended this workshop organised by a British NGO - "Sense about science" and "voice of young science". Not only did it make my role as a PGR more relevant in society but it gave me a sense of responsibility towards society at large. This is an invitation and testimony.

Public engagement with the Guernsey evacuation of WW2
I have received funding from the ESRC to organise a Public engagement event at Stockport War Memorial and Art Gallery on Sunday 30 October from 1pm to 4pm. All are welcome to this free event where we hope to engage the public with these real stories of chidren's lives affected by war. The event is being co organised by my Community group of WW2 child evacuees who fled Guernsey to Northern England in June 1940 just prior to the German occupation of their island. Many remained here after the war, and our community group gives these elderly residents, aged between 73 and 92, the chance to share their wartime experiences with each other and with the local community, whilst also reducing their social isolation; several have disabilities. This is our largest event to date and we are very grateful for the funding support of the ESRC. The event will be attended by Mayors from Stockport, East Cheshire and High Peak, and Councillors from Bury, Manchester and Stockport. Guernsey's Minister for Culture and Leisure will also attend.
