Developing the leadership skills of researchers in post 92 universities10 May 2012

Event overview

This one day event is suitable for staff who support the development of strategic leadership skills for researchers in post 92 higher education institutions.

Findings from a LFHE-funded project, ‘Leading and Managing Research Excellence in post 92 institutions' (LMRE), will be presented. This project involved an audit of current leadership development activities for staff who lead and manage research, a series of focus groups to gauge development needs and priorities. Findings from these informed the design of an innovative development programme, delivered to a small group of academics with leadership roles in three post-1992 institutions. Participant feedback was gathered to evaluate and refine the programme. The project team has designed a toolkit which can be used to design and deliver future development programmes of this nature.

Event programme

  • Overview of the LMRE project
  • Taster session of the LMRE development programme
  • Impact of the development programme
  • Resources for staff developers

Participants are invited to consider the challenges, the opportunities, and the associated impact with enhancing strategic research leadership skills at a senior level in post 92 HEI's.
