The Trainer exchange was piloted in 2011. It continues to enable sharing of potential gaps/spare capacity in internal trainer provision across the Hub.  Previous successful trainer exchanges have taken place between the University of Birmingham, University of Warwick and Loughborough University. This is how it works:

1. If your HEI has a deficit in expertise in a certain topic (for training aimed at doctoral candidates, research staff and/or staff supporting researchers) then you can request a trainer in this area to come to your institution to run a session
2. This request will be picked up by the Midlands Hub and added to an on-going spreadsheet of requests, regularly uploaded to our MHTE pages on our online forum (‘Basecamp’) for all to see
3. At the same time, we ask you to consider a training specialism/area of over capacity where you could offer a trainer's time to another Midlands institution. Please consider making a standalone trainer offer or an offer after browsing the needs outlined in the trainer requests posted
4. Your offers will be picked up by the Midlands Hub and added to an on-going spreadsheet of offerings, regularly uploaded to the MHTE pages on our online forum (‘Basecamp’) for all to see
5. The Midlands Hub will endeavour to match up offers and requests, as well as asking you to consider doing the same
6. If you decide to pursue a trainer request/trainer offer, please feel free to directly email/phone the contact on the listing. Please note that should you take up a trainer offer you are obliged to return the favour to the offering institution by giving them access to a trainer at your own institution at some point during the year. This ‘exchange' does not need to be like for like, in terms of time released or expertise, but can be bartered/agreed between yourselves, or with the assistance of the Midlands Hub Manager
7. Please notify the Midlands Hub of any agreed exchanges between yourself and another Midlands HEI
8. There is no financial reimbursement of a trainer's fee or travelling expenses
