Connections: Getting to Grips - Session descriptions

Further details on what to expect from each session at this years Connections: Getting to Grips series

1st May Policy in Practice

This session will explore the wider policy landscape on researcher development and research culture and how policy relates to practice. We will look at initiatives such as The Researcher Development Concordat, HR Excellence in Research Award (HREiR), and the Research Culture Framework, and consider their relevance for researcher development. We will also reflect on opportunities to shape internal policy, and how researcher development might act as a lever for research culture change.

15th May Engaging researchers

One of the key challenges facing those working within researcher development is engaging researchers in professional and career development activities. In this session, we will discuss some of the reasons why it can be difficult to encourage researchers to attend training or to engage in initiatives designed to support their development, as well as considering some strategies for approaching these challenges. Focused on interactive activities and practice sharing, the session will explore:

  • Understanding barriers to engagement

  • Making your development offer inclusive and accessible

  • Strategies for increasing engagement

29th May Leading and Developing Training

During this session we will provide an overview of the services Vitae’s Learning & Development Team can provide to support you in the development of your researchers. We will be specifically focusing on our Train the Trainer (TTT) model and explore how you can implement the TTT model as a wraparound package or stand-alone session. You will have the opportunity to observe one of our TTT facilitators in action as they introduce how to design and deliver an effective workshop. The session will be interactive, allowing you to share your experiences and enhance your understanding of designing and facilitating workshops for researchers.
