Biography

Karen provides strategic direction for the Research Excellence Training (RET) provision at the University of York. Working to support the University’s Research Strategy RET co-ordinate and deliver training for doctoral students, early career researchers, doctoral supervisors and Principal Investigators and professional support staff aligned to research. Responsibilities include:

  • Co-ordination of the University’s Concordat and ‘HR Excellence in Research’ process  · Oversight of all training and public engagement activities for researchers · Co-delivery of the Times Higher Award winning ‘Research Leaders’ programme for academic staff and PIs · Co-ordination of the early career researcher pilot mentoring scheme
  • Supporting the implementation of the Research Strategy and York Graduate Research School activity
  • Developing partnerships national and international to further enhance the support available to researchers.

Karen has a PhD in Education, has published widely on Assessment, is a trained coach and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
