Emma Stockley
Biography
Emma Stockley
Emma is an archaeologist in the first year of her Midlands4Cities-funded PhD at the University of Leicester. She’s researching Dartmoor’s hunter-gatherer past through the study of lithic scatters (areas of prehistoric worked stone tools). Her PhD is a collaborative doctoral award in partnership with Dartmoor National Park Authority.
Before starting her PhD Emma was Dartmoor National Park’s Heritage and Engagement Officer for seven years. This involved running community archaeology and heritage projects of all shapes and sizes in one of the UK’s most-loved landscapes.
Emma is passionate about working with local communities and is a Visiting Lecturer in heritage at the University of Plymouth. She has made several films, one of which won a national award, and is a computer-game voiceover artist.
In her spare time Emma loves to kayak around the Cornish coast with her scientist husband Bruce and two teenage sons Jake and Zach. She is a mediocre sailor, slightly iffy pianist and loves to listen to Audible and knit socks.
