Biography

Karen Clegg

Karen Clegg is Head of the Building Research and Innovation Capacity Team at the University of York, UK and provides strategic oversight of the professional development provision for postgraduate research students, research staff, fellows, PIs and doctoral supervisors. Karen has over 25 years experience working in academic and researcher development and is also now working to build research capacity and develop a positive institutional research culture at York. An elected member of the UK Council for Graduate Education (2020 - 2023) Karen instigated the UKCGE led UK Research Supervision Survey (UKRSS) which is part of the evidence base for the New Deal for Postgraduate Research and is currently supporting discussions with funders around CPD and the enhancement of supervision. She contributes to national and international debate and is regularly invited to give keynote addresses. She is a 3MT and public engagement enthusiast.

Karen is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a trained coach and an accomplished conference speaker.
