Kate Jones is the Institute Manager of the Institute of Integrative Biology (IIB) at the University of Liverpool, which carries out research spanning the full spectrum of biosciences, from molecule to ecosystem. Responsible for the operational management of this institute which employs ~220 staff and has ~144 postgraduate students, she plays a leading role in continually developing the Institute to provide an excellent research environment with world-class training and technical infrastructure to realise IIB's research ambitions. As such Kate has played a major role in supporting the Athena Swan agenda and implementing new policies and change.
Kate has well developed skills in all research support functions, operational management in particular financial management, strategic planning and asset and risk management. In her previous role Kate managed the Wellcome Trust Centre for Global Health Research, supporting clinical scientists working across the world in resource poor settings. Kate's key professional interests include the career development of junior researchers and the internationalisation of research and higher education in general.
