Job title

Senior OD Adviser (research staff development)

Biography

My role at the University is to support the development of research staff across our three Faculties.   This includes leading on the PI Development Programme, working with our Careers Service to deliver careers advice workshops, providing coaching and mentoring to research staff.  I also convene our Developing Excellent Researchers Subcommittee, which oversees research staff support activities to implement The Concordat.  Working with Subcommittee members, I coordinated our submission for the HR Excellence in Research Award recently, which has been successfully achieved for the 8th year running.

My background is as an Organisational Development professional, with a range of experience gained from different sectors.  I am particularly interested in learning & development, leadership & management development, resilience, coaching and mentoring.  I have been told by research staff that, along with my subject knowledge and experience, I bring a fresh approach and an external view to their work, which they value.

I am inspired in my work by seeing people develop, grow and achieve their goals.  This happens in my role as a coach or mentor, as well as through conversations with people during the course of my day.  These are mutually beneficial learning opportunities which inspire me.

I am also an artist and regard painting and drawing as an important part of my life.  Providing hours of pleasure, it is also my way of looking after my own health and wellbeing.
